Here is my attempt at following in the footsteps of James Ensor.

Studying his works was inspirational, most striking of which was his ability to transform everyday scenes from the 19th and 20th centuries into timeless creations that give the 21st century viewer a moment to pause and reflect. I wonder at his brilliantly poised still life paintings and imagine the drama that might have unfolded at the very next moment when James Ensor laid his brush down after completing the painting.

While the hustle and bustle of the times that we live in slowly recede in your thoughts, don’t be surprised if a vaudeville mask, or two, jump out from the shadows of this painting, just like they did in James Ensor’s pioneering works all those years ago.
