Open Call

Design a time capsule for De Panne Library

In the spring of 2026, the new Maurice Calmeyn Library will open its doors in the former St. Peter's Church. On the occasion of this opening, the library is launching a special open call for young artists (°1995 or later): design a unique time capsule that will hang in the library for fifty years - and will not be opened until 2076.

The winning artist will receive a compensation of € 4000 (incl. VAT) and will be given a prominent place in the new bib as well as in De Panne's art collection. The artwork will be hung high up in the church hall and must stand the test of time.

Do you dare to create a work of art that looks 50 years into the future?

The board is looking for an eye-catching design for this time capsule. However, it should not be shocking, profane, racist or discriminatory.

The artwork/time capsule will be chain-linked to the ceiling of the new library (the new library will be housed in the former St. Peter's Church, so high ceilings).
