Nel Bonte gaat op zoek naar de grens tussen sculptuur, architectuur en scenografie. Interpretatie en het opnieuw construeren van een bestaand classificatiemodel vormen de basis. Hierbij kan de betekenis of functie van de herkenbare vormentaal van een dagdagelijks object worden herzien. Er ontstaat een nieuwe betekenis, zowel inhoudelijk als vormelijk. Dit resulteert in een serie van sculpturen die veel weg hebben van schaalmodellen waarbij interactie met het publiek een deel van het onderzoek/oeuvre vormt. De Locatie waar haar werk zal plaatsvinden wordt telkens opnieuw in vraag gesteld. ‘De fysieke ruimte’ krijgt hierbij een inhoudelijke betekenis. Tegenstellingen zoals ‘Toeval’ en ‘Experiment’ worden tegenover elkaar geplaatst. De locatie van het werk wordt een noodzakelijk, symbolisch gegeven. De keuze om in situ te werken, het in scene zetten van de whitecube van een galerie/museum, of fotografie als medium te gebruiken als representatiemodel, wordt hierbij ondervraagd. Hierdoor blijft ze een nieuwe betekenis geven aan enerzijds het inhoudelijke, de vormelijke huid van haar oeuvre en anderzijds aan de fysieke ruimte. Beide interageren met de toeschouwer of met de publieke ruimte. Dit symbolische proces vormt de basis van een oeuvre dat gekenmerkt wordt door het experimentele waardoor het doorheen tijd en ruimte telkens opnieuw wordt onderzocht.

Work process 

Nel Bonte pushes the boundaries between sculpture, architecture and scenography. Interpretation and reconstruction of existing models of classification form the basis, from which the meaning and function of the recognisable language of shapes of a common object are reconsidered. A new meaning emerges, in both content and form. This results in a series of sculptures that strongly resemble scale models, making the interaction with the audience a part of the research and oeuvre. The location for her work is repeatedly questioned and the physical space is given a substantial meaning. Contradictions such as coincidence and experiment are juxtaposed, turning the location of the work into one of its necessary, symbolic aspects. The choice to work on location, to stage the white cube of a gallery or museum, or to use photography as a medium of representation, is always questioned. This allows her to keep giving new meaning to, on the one hand, the content, the formal skin of her oeuvre and, on the other hand, the physical place in which it is displayed. Both interact with the onlooker and/or the public space. This symbolical process is the basis of an oeuvre characterised by an experimental attitude, through which it is continually reevaluated throughout time and space.   Translation Gijs Witdoeck                                                                                                                                

Méthode de travail

Nel Bonte cherche la frontièreentre sculpture, architecture et scénographie. L’interprétation et la reconstruction de modèles de classification existants constituent la base. Ce faisant, elle peut reconsidérer la signification ou la fonction du langage formel reconnaissable d’un objet quotidien. Un nouveau sens apparaît, tant au niveau du contenu quede la forme. Il en résulte une série de sculptures qui ressemblent fortement à des modèles réduits, où l’interaction avec le public fait partie intégrante de la recherche et de l’oeuvre.

Le lieu où se déroulera son travail est sans cesse remis en question. « L’espace physique »prend une signification sur le plan du contenu. Des oppositions telles que « Coïncidence » et « Expérimentation » sont confrontées l’une à l’autre. L’emplacement de l’oeuvre devient un aspect nécessaire et symbolique.

De ce fait, elle questionne le choix de travailler sur place, de mettre en scène le cube blanc d’une galerie ou d’un musée, ou d’utiliser le médium photographiqueen tant que modèle de représentation. Ainsi, elle continue à donner un nouveau sens au contenu, à la peau formelle de son oeuvre d’une part, et à l’espace physique d’autre part. Les deux interagissent avec le spectateur ou avec l’espace public.

Ce processus symbolique constitue la base d’une oeuvre caractérisée par l’expérimentation, de sorte qu’elle est constamment réexaminée dans le temps et l’espace.
