Martine’s work evolves around truth-seeking. Her imaginative and inquisitive mind is layered with existentialism and perception. She is fascinated by sensory and cognitive perception, and how we perceive the visible and invisible world around us. The way we perceive is processed by the sensory input and by what we know, both resulting in how we interpret or believe is truth.

She challenges these two processes through imagination and curiosity with the language of her background in the Arts and Science. Reality becomes somewhat transformed and distorted. Ordinary banal objects connect us to the familiarities we know, to then dissolve and transcend into something else, another dimension. Her visual work is characterised by a style that is colourful and vibrant, balanced by the graphical abstraction of lines, curves, geometry and patterns.

Architect Martine is a multidisciplinary artist. As a kid she would spend hours drawing and making things with just paper and scissors. Perhaps out of boredom, or as a way to communicate, or just to escape reality and enter a fictional world. When a teenager, she went to the visual arts academy in Leuven, afterwards studied architecture in St Lucas Brussels, a combination of Arts & Science. She continued correlating different media, i.e. sketching, collages, photography, model making, and recently added video as another tool.

Martine is a registered architect in Australia (VIC), Belgium and United Kingdom.

Originally from Leuven, Martine has relocated her base various times to be able to soak in continents in an authentic way, e.g. Australia, Philippines and United Kingdom.
