Freya Devel is a visual artist and painter who works with cardboard, paint and collage. She recently graduated with a bachelor in fine art at Kask Ghent in the paining department and is currently working on a master degree.

 A notable aspect of her work is the frequent use of images of herself, a conscious choice to demand attention. The frequent use of self-images serves as a reflection of the struggle for visibility and recognition, not only from others but primarily from herself. Freya Devel does not settle for modesty; on the contrary, she embraces her desire for all attention and uses it as an integral part of her artistic practice. She draws attention with the bright cadmium red dominant in her work and places herself at the center of the target. Each artwork is infused with strategic self-promotion, not only to be seen but also to actively participate in the dialogue surrounding attention and self-presentation. The approach to the work seeks the boundary between bold and gentle, as self-hatred and selflove, but often deliberately crosses it.
