Inspired by an internet upload of someone discovering their kitten has two eyes in one eye socket, Inspection explores deviations in a felines construction as pet. 

The fingers framing the kitten are both intruding and anxious, diagnostic and caring, maternal and forensic. Inspection explores the anxiety created when owning a living companion animal, that unlike a toy or doll your pet is subject to imperfections or genetic deviances. This aims to destabilise the notion of genetic perfection seen in breeding cultures and the pedigree market.

The deviance of having a third of something that usually comes in pairs. In humans the third teat or witches mark which is meant for their familiars to suckle, relating to the occult and demonic. These representations create a disturbance in the pet/pet owner dichotomy.
