In Lecture on Space (2024) bespeelt Irene de perceptie en ruimtebeleving van de kijker. Door te spelen met welbekende ruimtes of landschappen geeft ze je op den duur toegang tot ‘andere dimensies’. Hoe ziet de binnenkant van een muur eruit? En hoe zie je jezelf kijkend door het raam? Ondertussen voert ze doorheen deze dagdagelijkse landschappen een resem personages op die uit een tegenstrijdige fantasiewereld lijken geplukt.

In this performance, I mock the rigid format of a lecture, blending it with very personal storytelling. The question "How small of a gesture is necessary to spark an affinity?" is my tool to navigate social structures and capitalist systems from the discomfort of my room, where encounters with its other non-human inhabitants - animals and objects - shift my perception of myself as well as my surroundings. Presenting this story as a lesson on space, and its power to transform according to human needs, I let the audience visualize its unravelling in the empty space before them.
