"Gaming Rules" "Les règles du jeu"
"Gaming Rules" "Les règles du jeu"
"The rules of the game" address issues of social inequalities, access to power, and good living conditions. Indeed, children richly dressed in the style of the Dutch Golden Age try at all costs to maintain their grip on wealth and the functioning of society in their favor, although their legitimacy in retaining this power is questionable due to the fortune they have accumulated through ethical concerns.
The confrontation with the capitalism, patriarchal, and colonialist past is subverted here by seemingly minor actions of the small characters. The artwork invites the public to question alternative means of action beyond those offered in a declining democracy. Actions, no matter how small, when gathered and regularly renewed, can lead to great upheavals toward a more egalitarian society that is mindful of its environment.
The technique of engraving itself reminds us that it has been a means of spreading and sharing images and ideas since the Renaissance. Today, with this technique, I aim to convey a message calling for the deceleration of our society.
