GLASS CHILD
GLASS CHILD
This painting is called Glass Child and it is inspired by Frida Kahlo’s The Two Fridas (1939). With this painting I wanted to show the struggle of Glass Children. Glass children are siblings of people with a disability. Glass refers to seeing through them and also being fragile (though they try to stay strong). On the right you see my brother (who has a disability) and his accomplishments -his accomplishments deserve to be highlighted in my opinion, so I am not criticising that-. Left is the glass child, whose accomplishments aren’t highlighted, but hidden. The scissor represents the glass child cutting off their connection with their sibling; the scissor is, unlike her accomplishments, hung on the wall. Showing her guilt for not taking care of the other person anymore. She seeks freedom but still stays. However, her world is quickly breaking and she will need to leave to save herself.
