Jade Teapot

Jade Teapot

About the print

"Jade Teapot" is a print made with the mokuhanga technique (japanese woodcut). It has a keyblock made with Shina Plywood, and three more color blocks, for a total of 9 layers to build the final print.

The paper is Kitakata Select from Awagami Factory, sized by me.

Colors used are a mix of Holbein Tosai Pigment Paste, Sumi ink and powdered pigment.

The Story

Although it is not particularly pretty print, It is the most difficult print I've made so far. So many gradients!

This teapot is based on a photo I made while visiting the British Museum on April 2024. The piece is not an antique, but a work of art made by a chinese artisan carver (Yu Ting) from Suzhou. It is amazing.

This print belongs to a series of 5 prints, all of them printed during August and September 2024, at Fabiola Gil Estudio in Zaragoza. These prints were displayed at FIG Bilbao 2024 (Festival Internacional de Grabado y Arte sobre Papel).
