Mutual generation, mutual restraint

Mutual generation, mutual restraint

This project explores the intersection of digital culture and the physical realm, probing

its impact on diasporic cultural identity in the Western context. Guided by Taoist

philosophy, it employs Mutual Generation and Mutual Restraint to study data

frequencies, shaping the symbolic meaning of individual and societal information

bodies. Experimentation in Rotterdam and Chengdu focuses on fragmented

self-identity within digital nomadism, utilizing field recording and 3D scanning. The

exploration delves into information flow dynamics, guiding the reconstruction of

culturally rooted field recordings into an interactive video installation. Collaborating

with a sound group, the project embraces audio-visual performance, symbolizing data

frequencies. Presented at "Neck of the Woods" in Rotterdam from January 25 to

February 24, 2024, coinciding with Art Week Rotterdam.

Driven by dual exploration, the project delves into Chinese diaspora history,

organizing fragmented self-identity within digital culture and Western post-colonial

discourse. Reintegrating data into cultural contexts, it emphasizes emotional impact.

Focused on narratives through data-generated images and sound, the project aims

for emotional and immersive experiences, connecting with audiences interested in

digital publishing, multicultural narratives, and diverse perspectives. Invitations extend

to engage with the proposed narrative and methodologies, forming a foundational

base for future art practice
