LONG TERM PIECE (2011-2019)
In 'LONG TERM PIECE' (2011-2019) Naomi (and her dancers) played the role of a commercial dancer/showgirl, producing and creating dance performances for high-end corporate events and publicity. This work can be seen as meditations and research on socio-cultural issues such as gender, the male gaze and the role of the female body and dancer, in and through the capitalist male/macho dominated world we are living in. The way she ‘used’ her audience is a very present and important element in the work, and towards the reflection of the work, while adding notions such as power play & voyeurism. With a striking intuition and a very accurate feeling for timing and composition she simultaneously knows exactly how to create a very subtle but persistent tension along all the performance. Leading a team of approximately 15 freelance dancers, she was also responsible for the styling, costume design, choreography & bookings. With this project, Naomi not only wanted to question the male gaze within the dance & corporate scene, but she also made space for queer performers and dancers within, where at that time (2011..) there was absolutely no room for, let alone awareness.
