Thinking instead of seeing

When we look at things, we often only recognize the object as belonging to this or that category - it is simply 'like something else', and this category is made of memories of earlier experiences with that kind of object, the name of that object in the languages you know, ... The point is that we don't really see the object anymore that is here, before our eyes; the emphasis lies on the past, on our associations with this kind of object.
