Ornis

Ornis

"For me, bird collecting is not so much about collecting, but about studying birds. I study birds, hence I make lists with their origins and characteristics. I see it as a for of biological research. I’m also an aesthete. I like beautiful things, like birds. Therefore, I collect."

In Ornis, Alice Dooreman engages in a dialogue with her father's ornithological studies. Through portraits of birds, she seeks to meet the precision of a collecting observer, whose job it is to know, to collect, to classify. Ornis is not only about a fascination with the human tendency to collect and classify that which surrounds us, more so it is a search for connection between a daughter and her father.
