NL: Als deelnemer lig je in een geborduurde rode eenpersoonstent en luister je naar een schommelende soundscape die doet denken aan een warme zomeravond. De tent is zacht en heeft eigenschappen die worden geassocieerd met vrouwelijkheid (borduurwerk, kralen, organza stof). De tekst werd ingesproken door computer gegenereerde stemmen. De soundscape is rustgevend maar de inhoud van de tekst (een heksenkring die erotische vreugde vindt in vernieling) mogelijk zenuwslopend. De identiteiten en ervaringen van de luisteraar/toeschouwer zullen hun ervaring in de tent kleuren en bepalen of je het als rustgevend, grappig, zenuwslopend of – in ‘t ergste geval – als best saai ervaart.

De soundscape werd gemaakt in samenwerking met muzikant Matthijs Vanstaen. De installatie ging in première voor vrienden en familie in mijn woonkamer.

ENG: Participants lay down in a fit-for-one embroidered red tent and listen to a meandering soundscape reminiscent of late summer evenings. The tent has a softness to it and has attributes associated with femininity (embroidery, beads, organza draping). The text is spoken by computer generated voices. The soundscape is soothing but the content of the text (a female coven that finds erotic joy in destruction) is potentially unnerving. The intersecting identities and the lived experience of the participants will color the experience and guide whether it will be more soothing, funny or unnerving, or – worst case scenario – just boring.

The soundscape was made in collaboration by the musician Matthijs Vanstaen. The installation premiered for friends and family in my living room.
