Summer Evening
Summer Evening
3 layer monotype on paper
This piece is based on a view from a late evening walk with my dog in Hasselt where I used to live. Reworking this view, which was a place I would pass by daily, was a way for me to travel back in time and feel the feelings I had when I was living there. There is a sense of sadness from missing my old town but also a lot of softness to it coming from the positive feelings I have towards that time of growth and freedom in my life I experiences living there. I can still remember the warm weather of this sunset.
The piece is a monotype where a plate is inked completely black and the image is created by wiping off the ink thus revealing an image. As the name suggests, you can only print one print with a monotype as the ink is transferred onto the paper your plate is left empty.
