Oppressed No More
Oppressed No More
Through re-assembling fragments of a shattered clay sculpture into a chaotic order, this artwork explores the paradox of sculpture as both static and transformative. After the original piece was accidentally broken, I chose not to restore it, but instead to reconfigure its remains into a new form: one that embodies a more dramatic, unstable energy--as if the sculpture were erupting outward, a creature struggling to escape an oppressive trap.
This process later prompted me to reflect on growth and transformation, and the urge to exceed what we were originally shaped to be: Who do we become when we push against the forces that once confined us? It turns out, that the prospect of remaining unchanged is even more frightening than the risk of change itself.
