View / Vision

View / Vision

Looking through the window of a tram, I noticed a black grid structure instead of a view of the city. When I shifted my focus I could see the city, and no longer just this grid. While looking, I noticed that I could choose what to really see.

This sparked an interest about the way we see things, or better said, the fact that we look at things but don’t really see them. And when we choose to see, we all see differently.

The woven grid - scaled up/down, overlapped, etc.-  is being used as a way to break our easy vision, it fractures the surface, forcing a pause. It reminds us that seeing is an intentional act, one that can be directed, deepened, or distracted. It creates a visual effect that questions our focus.

The work invites a shift from passive observation to active seeing — from viewing as a habit to vision as an intentional act. It’s not just about what’s in front of us, but how we perceive it. You may see an image behind the grid, while the other might just see a mixture of colors.

Linger, re-see, let your perception unfold.
