Physical memory
Physical memory
‘To cover’= the action of covering something and obtaining a new shape with that action.
When we cover something, it loses most of its subjective qualities, the objective qualities remain… The remains show the anonymity of the 3d form. It’s like a frozen image of what was once there. An immortalization, serenity, a mold.
Using the shibori technique, I’ve become shapes that hold the physical memory of actions that are long gone and create shapes that might or might not have been there.
The threads that pulled these fabrics together have disappeared, but still reveal their -long absent- presence. They express themselves through lines, small holes, bulges and large shapes.
It creates anonymous forms, illusions of an action that once was and shapes it might cover.
It’s about how an action creates an illusion through its remains. And so, takes up a lasting, immortalized place in space, staying with us like fossils. The long-gone action being present in the now.
In addition, there is a game with shadows, an element that leaves an illusion of something else, a shape, a darker color. It covers and shows, just like the remains
