Open Call
Create the artwork for the village garden of the House of Lievegem

In 2026, the Local Government of Lievegem will be looking for an artist to design, create, and install an outdoor artwork at the entrance to the new administrative center: the ‘House of Lievegem’. This call for proposals is part of the ‘New Voices, Shared Stories’ project.
It is important that the outdoor artwork is based on the story of the environment – not only the physical location, but also the surrounding world. The artist chooses how to translate this inspiration artistically.
The Lievegem Local Authority will make a maximum of €20,000 (including VAT) available to the artist for the selected project.
Any artist (professional or amateur) or artist collective may apply. Ultimately, a professional jury will assess the entries and select one winner.
The open call is part of the recently approved Lievegem art competition ‘New voices, shared stories’. With this biennial competition, the local government aims to further develop and innovate art in public spaces. The focus is on visual arts in the broadest sense of the word, with room for different artistic disciplines and interpretations as long as they fit in with the proposed concept and the context of the project. Page 1 of 2 Central to this is the idea that artworks should be based on the story of the environment—not only the physical location, but also the surrounding world.
Any artist (professional or amateur) or artist collective may submit an entry. A professional jury will ultimately assess the entries and select one winner.
It is important that the designs are created specifically for this competition and have not been previously realized or exhibited. A professional jury will assess all entries based on:
• artistic quality and originality,
• integration of the work into the space concerned,
• the link with the location and the living environment of the surroundings, • the value of the background story,
• and the feasibility within budget and timing.
The Lievegem Local Authority has made a budget of up to €20,000 available for the selected design. This amount covers the design, realization, installation, and all additional costs. The competition is open for entries until February 1, 2026.
