Open Call

HUP 02

A Push for your artistic work

HUP is back – and looking for 15 emerging visual artists!

Ready to take your artistic practice to the next level? HUP is a 6-month trajectory that offers €2000 in financial support, tailored coaching, and a shared creative journey with 15 other emerging artists based in Flanders or Brussels. Whether you're a passionate hobbyist, an art student, or just starting out without professional support — HUP is here to give your practice the momentum it needs.

Over the course of the program, you’ll dive into your artistic development through hands-on workshops, inspiring group discussions, expert feedback, and regular meetups. You’ll grow not only as an individual artist, but also as part of a supportive and diverse peer group.

The trajectory ends with a group exhibition in BLANCO, Ghent, opening on June 5, 2026 — a moment to share your work with the public and celebrate everything you’ve built together.

Curious? Motivated? This might just be the spark your work has been waiting for.

Deadline

Organizer
Kunstwerkt

HUP is a talent development opportunity from Kunstwerkt. Every year, Kunstwerkt selects 15 artists to realize their artistic project. You will receive a budget of €2,000 for this. The end result of your project will be shown in a group exhibition in BLANCO Ghent from June, 05 to June 13 2026. In addition, we provide substantive guidance, one-on-one coaching with professionals from the field and inspiring meeting days throughout the year.

Who can participate?

  • You are 18 years or older.

  • You are based in Flanders or the Brussels-Capital Region.

  • All artists are welcome at HUP02 regardless of gender, origin, religion or other personal characteristics.

  • You are a non-professional artist: Emerging artists, art students & recreational artists. Mid-career artists. Artists supported by a promotional gallery are not eligible.

How to participate?

You can register by submitting your work between 18 August and 15 October on the online platform Beeld. We are working with two rounds for this open call. In this way, we strive for an accessible procedure for the artists. We believe it is important to communicate transparently with you about the HUP trajectory and value your time as an artist and the time you invest in this application.

In the first round we ask for more information about your portfolio, your project idea and your personal development needs. Only in the second round we ask for your budget and more details about your project.

Participation is free.

What, what not?

  • With HUP we want to support a wide range of creations. All types of works are allowed for this, the development part of your project is at least as valuable as your artistic practice.

  • We are looking for artists who clearly want to develop their talents and show this in an exhibition after this process.

  • Submitting as a collective is allowed.

  • You submit your online portfolio, but it is expected that you are working towards a new production, which could be completely new work, but also a new way of presenting, building on an existing project…

  • You can submit sketches of a work-in-progress. Indicate this clearly in your project description.

Selection procedure

Only works submitted via the online platform Image by midnight on October 15 will be accepted for the selection of 'HUP02'. The jury members will make a selection based on your artistic qualities, but especially on the way in which you want to develop in this trajectory. We will make an initial online selection between 15 and 24 October, with the digital submissions being assessed by an external jury consisting of Magali Elali (The Constant Now) Ellen Janssens (Sint Lukas Academie). The selected artists will then have the opportunity to further clarify their trajectory. The final selection will take place before 15 November. All participants will be personally informed about the final selection no later than this date.
