Open Call
Your lace artwork in an expo

As is customary each year, and in the context of Heritage Day 2026, Kant in Vlaanderen has chosen the theme ‘SPITSVONDIG’ (sharp, clever, witty) as the title for its annual exhibition. To this end, Kant in Vlaanderen is also looking to you and challenging you and other artists to create something within the framework of this theme.
With the theme ‘Spitsvondig’ (Witty), artists can go in any direction.
The participating works must demonstrate that the uniqueness of the lace heritage is visible in a newly created art object.
The characteristic of ‘transparency’ is central to this and can be created in both contemporary works and traditional lace designs.
The exhibition starts on Sunday, April 26, 2026, and runs throughout the following week, until Saturday, May 2, 2026.
Official opening: Heritage Day, Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 11 a.m.
Location: St. Catherine's Church and the Foyer in the Beguinage of Diest.
Participation is free for KiV members; non-members pay €35 upon registration.
The works can be brought to the venue (Begijnhofkerk Diest) on Saturday, April 18, 2026, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Participants are expected to submit:...
either a piece of lace they have designed themselves, inspired by the above theme
...
or a work of art in another art form, inspired by the above theme and in which the characteristic ‘transparency of lace’ is clearly present or has a strong connection with lace techniques.
* Submitted works that do not meet the above expectations, or that express political or extreme views, may be refused for the exhibition.
Dimensions:
- in 2D: maximum 1 m x 1 meter (depending on the panels used),
unless the work can be hung in the space.
- in 3D: no limit, but must be brought and set up by the artist.
