Gilles Dedecker
In his practice Gilles Dedecker tries to organize the daily impressions from his surroundings. He finds them at times overwhelming and through structuring them in drawing series he pursues a form of rest. This gives him the tools to create an own imaginary world. In that world the titles form an important part of the artworks. They are a stepping stone for the spectator to use his own imagination and to interpret them. Gilles describes daily impressions at one hand as the visual information you get while looking around. At the other hand you have daily movements and customs in our society. Through the use of actions and building installations, the artist tries to focus our attention at these apparently ‘normal’ customs that we conduct on a weekly base. He combines them with absurd themes and implements them in his own world.
