BeeCube: The Temple of Emotions

BeeCube: The Temple of Emotions

In recent years, I have explored a series of artistic rituals aimed at investigating difficult emotions such as conflicts, grief, feelings of inadequacy, anger, abandonment, and jealousy. These emotions, capable of transforming our daily perception and influencing how we see ourselves, time, and relationships, are at the heart of a public installation I created, "BeeCube." Within an architectural installation composed of a cube made of wood, beeswax, and cotton, I invited people to draw and share difficult moments from their lives.

Once inside the structure, people are invited to sit and draw on a wax surface placed above a brass box—“the wax box”—a difficult moment from their life. They then light a candle and watch as the drawing melts, focusing on the melting process and the emotions tied to that challenging event.

This is a ritual of transformation. Like our emotions, wax has different physical states—it goes from solid to liquid and then transforms into gas. Our emotions, initially heavy, begin to melt over time as we observe and share them with others, eventually becoming as light as air. They will always be present, like wax, but in a different state, one that is easier to live with and integrate.

The "wax box," inspired by the Christian candle ritual, was originally conceived for a Romanesque church in Italy. This artistic tool offers a unique opportunity to observe and reprocess inner emotions, transforming the creative act into an exercise in mindfulness and healing.

During this process of engaging with the public, I began to explore a new theme: monsters and shadows. By combining various painting techniques with elements such as lace, embroidery, and beeswax, I started creating "monsters" that represent personal reflections on my way of being in the world, my relationship with work, the art world, and the figure of the artist, as well as my connection with time and breathing.

These "threshold monsters" are symbolic entities that grow and evolve with me, representing the inner conflicts I must face to move forward on my path. They exist between a "before" and an "after," holding me in specific conflicts until I can overcome them. Only by integrating these challenges can I cross the threshold that separates the different stages of my journey; otherwise, I am condemned to repeat the same dynamics over and over.
