Residency

Residency

Residence serves as the origin of all issues. My initial home, once departed, becomes a spiritual homeland that is difficult to reach again. Throughout the later life, buildings resembling my hometown continuously attracted me to them, and through them, I traced my own history.

The texture of that bygone era, preserved in these similar buildings, standing still in silent resistance against linear time. This quiet resistance filled me with a sense of sorrow and became the catalyst for the creation of this series.

Through using gray color made by aquatint and pencil drawing, I want to express in extremely restrained gray tones, articulating the monumental changes felt in the silence. The gray color, figures, and lines collaboratively construct my (distinctive)visual narrative, pulling forth the passive obedience and powerlessness of individuals amidst urban transformations and resistance to intangible domains.
