Шанарак
Шанарак
The installation focuses on endangered species, heightening awareness of the region's ecological catastrophe. Consisting of 34 textile fish decorated with Karakalpak ornaments, it symbolizes the 34 extinct fish species of the Aral Sea. The fish are hung inside the yurt, symbolizing man's connection with nature. The dome of the yurt - shanarak - is associated with the Sun and has been replaced by a dome of light. The salt under the feet of the audience reminds of the drying sea and its sad consequences, and the shadows of the fish on the salty bottom symbolize the disappearing water and the loss of abundance.
