WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HEART

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HEART

The work What Happened to the Heart arose in the context of research into the vulnerability of the body, something I call “the terror of being flesh”.

The work consists of three parts: organ, preservative, and container.

The work takes its inspiration from the alcohol jars used to preserve organic remains in biology laboratories, as an expression of the desire to preserve my body and prevent it from degrading and disappearing.

In this case, what is preserved is my heart, which houses all my emotions, desires, and everything I am.
The heart was made using a crochet technique with velvety wool to imitate an anatomical heart. I wanted to represent the contrast between the disgust that viscera or organs usually provoke and the properties of velvet, which is soft and pleasant to all the senses. The piece is a soft toy, very similar to those that children have, but with an atypical shape.
The heart itself is fragile; it is perfectly preserved in water during the exhibition period, but when it is removed from the container, it loses all its beauty and texture.
