About rooting
About rooting
I refuse to believe that nothing remains of me in the places I inhabit. I think of myself as a kind of plant that takes root deep in the soil and spreads its seeds to reach a new place. Then my consciousness goes to the new plant, and I grow again. I adapt and leave behind my old self, the life I have created, which remains in the people, in the earth, in the air. To express this idea, I took photos of the roots of a plant I love: the lentil, as it represents my home, my origins, the home I left behind. I examine it under the microscope after lovingly growing it. I examine myself, the roots I created in Weimar, which I would soon leave behind to go to a new place. And the cycle begins again.
This work was exhibited at the ACC gallery in Weimar, as part of the exhibition about nesting to leave anyway.
