Tierra que empuja, tierra que pasa

Tierra que empuja, tierra que pasa

Tierra que empuja, tierra que pasa is a sculptural installation resulting from an artistic research project funded by the University of Granada, as part of FACBA 22. In collaboration with the Departments of Pathological Anatomy and Comparative Literature, as well as the collection of anatomical models at the Hospital Quinto Centenario, the project investigates the non-existent biography of Manuel Baena García, known as “El cabezón de Gabia.”

The project brings together various images, forms, and creatures that appear, in one way or another, within the urban legends surrounding this figure, and materializes them in an exhibition proposal that seeks to recontextualize the story without closing it.

One of the starting points of the proposal was the existence of a hydrocephalic skull in the mummy collection of the Department of Pathological Anatomy, supposedly attributed to Manuel Baena. However, after examining its phrenological and chronological data, this myth was ultimately debunked, as the dates did not correspond to his death.  Either way, the myth keeps expanding and people still believes that his head is stored somewhere in the department.

Shown at Sala Zaida, Caja Rural Foundation, Granada.
