10 Rules of the Avant-Garde (performance, KIOSK Ghent, 2024)
In this 45-minute performance, I positioned myself in relation to a series of personal and found objects, ranging from fake pigeons and cigarettes to small assemblages and a red cloth. Each object held a specific meaning within my practice, acting as both relic and reference. Throughout the performance, I continuously measured and moved between these objects, recording each action in a notebook. The work reflects on artistic paralysis, doubt, and the pressure to create something “significant,” confronting the inherited ideals of the avant-garde while moving beyond a traditional understanding of art-making.
