In Japan you can find umbrellas in the subway, the airport, the station, the hotel... places where other people wanted to leave them so that you could pick them up. They accompany you for a day, a few hours, a week... until you let them go too. I have often wondered how many lives can go through the life of an umbrella. I went through many.
“Rain in Asakusa" is a limited edition woodblock print inspired by my experience with Hagibis typhoon in the year 2019. It’s the first in a new series of woodblock prints named “The multiple lives of umbrellas”.
