This project was in collaboration with Annemijn Gruisen, a good friend of mine. I really appreciate her work, which is often delicate, thoughtful and about everyday objects. It started when I showed her a book on Siah Armajani, with a lot of small maquettes of simple spaced. I thought she would appreciate these and we started fantasizing about the small spaces we would like to make. So we gathered materials and set a date to craft maquettes. We made the spaces in company of each other, but had our own maquette we worked on. It was fun to see how our approaches differed. Annemijn would start from a particular thing, like a musquito screen, while I would start with a material. When the small spaces where finished we decided we would like to make etchings of them together. So we started to draw them, this time working on the same drawing. We had some set rules, like the one that starts the drawing will first draw an element from a space the other made (because you have a different way of looking at the work of the other). We then translated some of these drawings into etchings. It was very interesting and fun to see how Annemijn would translate them and how we figured out a way that fit us both.

The dimensions of the small spaces vary between ten to twenty centimeters in length, width and height.

The etchings have dimensions of a5 to a4.
