Hazy Memory
Hazy Memory
In post-war Colombia, a social leader is killed every four days. Yet this data reveals as much as it normalizes the corrosive violence the country has endured the past sixty years. No number can depict the pain of a dismembered family, nor the agony of a country without memory. This is an amorphous pain without contours. It is not seen, but is carried inside.
'Hazy Memory' seeks to highlight the problem of violence in post-war Colombia. It focuses on the social leaders assassinated by death squads, guerrillas, drug cartels and state security forces for defending human rights, promoting social peace and securing collective rights to land and territory. The installation was exhibited in KADOC Documentation and Research Centre on Religion, Culture and Society (University of Leuven).
