Structures and positions

Free adaptation of «The Utopian Body» by Michel Foucault

The body imposes itself as the “already there”, that which precedes us and determines us, that which gives us glory or humiliates us;
This is why Michel Foucault can say: “My body is the opposite of a utopia, that which is never under another sky, it is the absolute place, the small fragment of space with which, at the strict sense, I am one.”
Utopia demands other spaces, other bodies. It seems that we must go to the side of death or, even more, of the soul to erase the body.
However, we like to look at bodies and we even like to fantasize about them, to make them enter into imaginary variations. The utopian body is therefore never far away.
Utopian bodies undo the natural limits of bodies, thus the body is never where it is assigned, a junction in the film which makes the point between Foucault and the Gnawa.
