A clear message from the SRFFF
(Small Rodent Freedom Fighters Front)

Here, a stuffed bird pierced by an arrow is presented as a “message” from a fictional group of rodent freedom fighters.
The scene is both darkly humorous and unsettling. It suggests how the fight for freedom is rarely simple: when one minority group demands recognition, resources, or legal protection, it can sometimes come into tension with the demands of another minority group.
This work illustrates the paradox of freedom in diverse societies. At first glance, freedom seems universal: everyone should enjoy it equally. But when we look closer, freedom is often expressed through specific group identities and rights—for example, ethnic minorities, religious groups, LGBTQ+ communities, disabled people, or migrants. The work highlights that freedom is not absolute; it exists in relation to others.
If freedom for one group automatically restricts another, then freedom becomes a negotiated compromise rather than a fixed entitlement. The piece points out how fragile this balance is: protecting the voice of one minority can unintentionally silence or disadvantage another. We can raise the question if true freedom is possible without some form of exclusion?
By showing this tension, the artwork forces the viewer to reflect on the complexity of democracy and human rights.
That means freedom is not a simple or absolute concept:
It’s shared space, where different groups must negotiate their claims. One group’s liberation or recognition might unintentionally limit or challenge another group’s position.
True freedom, then, is not just about asserting rights, but also about finding a balance that respects diversity without creating new exclusions.
