Making this illustration brought me so much joy. I wanted to evoke that late afternoon summer feeling. When the silence of the streets is only interrupted by the children playing. Life is calm. We don’t have to rush anywhere. 

This illustration was made for the story “Hier voel ik me ook thuis” by Zeljka. In this story, Zeljka talks about her life in Antwerp and particularly about “Het Pleintje” (little square), which she warmly calls her own garden. This is the meeting place of parents and children of De Kleine Jacob elementary school. Where in spring and summer they drink coffee together, eat aperitifs, dine, feast on Joe’s pizza, meet new neighbours, where children play and celebrate birthdays.
