objets fatigués

objets fatigués

Bill Brown, “Thing Theory,” Critical Inquiry 28, no. 1 (2001): 1–22.

“If these objects are tired, they are tired of our perpetual reconstitution of them as objects of our own desire and our affection. They are tired of our longing. They are tired of us.” (11)

These works come from my  experience studying as a foreign student at an art school in France. At the time I was living alone in a small studio. There are days when the entropy is high and life stays low. I couldn’t help but noticed the piles of dishes left in the sink waiting to be washed. They seemed to hold a sense of absence and a fragile balance. I wanted them to be light, almost transparent, yet present, conveying a sense of fragile balance of the everyday life.
