The inability to touch

The inability to touch

I was inspired by the white fabrics people hung outside their windows during the corona crisis.

Because I am always looking for a context, for a space to give my work an extra meaning, this situation seemed ideal for that.

I gave my work a function, it became a saleable object that could be attached to the facade. People also gave such a canvas as a gift to each other, this way they communicated with each other through textiles.

I am always looking for the connection between language, image and textile. How can I as an artist find my way in this crisis? In what way is there a possibility to communicate with neighbours and by-passers?

This way there is a mutual communication with textile. The inability to touch.

The inability to touch each other. The inability to touch you.

With this project I hoped to bring about a positive chain reaction in contrast to the virus. The project was very successful, over 75 people bought a cloth, the proceeds went entirely to the CAW noordwestvlaanderen for the benefit of vulnerable people. This gave the work an extra function.
