Vosselare put

Werner Aerssens “VOSSELARE PUT” acryl, 80 x 80 cm, 2015
Describing the place, the artist Werner Aerssens depicts three small human figures. They appear not as the main subject of landscape which is certainly a house with a red roof, and it is also the compositional center of the picture. But there is another one center. What do the children on a raft? They just watch at the artist who paints.

Three centers

The picture has three centers. First center is the artist himself. The second center is a subject which he describes in painting, a house on the bank of a pond. The third center is who accompany him when he creates. The children on a raft are watching with interest to what the artist is doing. They came here to watch. And they are also the three!
Of course, this third center is optional. But it appears as a root of the picture, and it is usualy underneath the main subject. This is the moment of self-awareness. The artist watches the subject he paints, and the children watch the artist who is in the creativ process.
Try to find three centers in all the pictures of Werner.

Describing an object

This is the most stunning moment of Werner’s painting, his par exellence. The artist does not create an object, but describes it with paints, as it were, tells the story, striving for accuracy, but with large strokes, voluntaristic.
The artist uses a variety of subjects for his paintings. It may be a street Gent, or a tree in the Citadel park, or the biblical character, or a season of year, such as a spring in this picture. The artist is always the most specific. You can always determine exactly where, when and with whom it happens.

The three powers of the soul

Werner’s paintings are very relevant and wordy. Therefore, I want to listen to him. Every painting requires a listener who understands its inner. And also it requires the viewer, who admires the state of joy.
All the paintings by Werner are so memorable. They have something that makes me admire the subject more and more. A sort of completeness and tranquility. Creativity, Expressionism and Self-consciousness. Like the water, the land and the air in this pictute. Like these small children. They are the three creative powers of human soul.
