Open Call
Eat this

With “Eat this”, Kunstwerkt and CC De Schakel (Waregem) are organizing a group exhibition without selection for visual artists on the theme of food. From fast food to five-course meal, from supermarket rack to kitchen table, from breakfast bowl to nightcap. What does your canvas serve?
Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans, Vincent van Gogh's Aardappeleters, the fried eggs from Sarah Lucas's Self portrait with fried eggs, Marcel Broodthaers's Mosselpot or Cindy Wrights saucy leftover photographs. Food has colored art history for centuries. And how. With “Eat This”, we challenge you to work on what nourishes you, what you crave for or perhaps what you spit out.
After “Pet Shop” last summer, in which artists submitted their favorite two-dimensional pet for an exhibition at Kunsthal Gent, Kunstwerkt is adding a new chapter with an extra challenge at CC De Schakel. For this edition, we are looking for work with the specific format of 20 x 20 cm. New or existing work: submit it before the end of August via our online platform Beeld.
We radically choose to exhibit all submitted works. Over 300 plats préférés can win a spot in this expo. Take your time, to let your idea settle, but full is full. If you get there in time, your work will immediately be part of the group exhibition '“Eat this” which will be on display at CC De Schakel from 19 September to 12 October 2025.
What's allowed, what's not?
- With 'Eat this' we want to exhibit visual work on the theme of 'food'. For this, all types of 2D works are allowed, but they must have a clear link to the theme. If the theme cannot be clearly identified through the accompanying text, the organizations are free to withhold the work.
- Video, 3D work and performance will not be allowed.
- Fixed dimensions are imposed: 20 cm high by 20 cm wide. These include frame/hanging system.
- If dimensions of the work turn out to be different from those previously entered during the submission process, the organizers are free to withhold the work from the expo.
- Your work is framed or provided with a proper hanging system. Do you have a specific way your work should be hung? Indicate this on the entry form, and bring the necessary materials for this yourself on the day of submission. The technical staff of CC De Schakel will do whatever is necessary to hang your work as desired.
- The work may not weigh more than 5kg.
- A series (a work consisting of several parts) is not allowed. Would you like to participate with one work from a series that you have already added to your profile on Beeld? Please indicate this clearly in the description.
Handing in your work
Have you successfully submitted your work digitally for this expo? And does your work meet the criteria listed above? Then you will receive an additional confirmation from the organization that your work is part of the expo. No later than the end of August you will receive an email with the practical details surrounding the expo.
Send your work by post:
CC De Schakel, for EAT THIS
Schakelstraat 8

Your package contains:
- A return label. On this you state your personal address as recipient, and the address of CC De Schakel as sender. You can easily create this via the Bpost app or online. More info on this here.
- Short practical info at work. This contains your name and the title of the work.
Keep in mind when sending your work that it has to be in Waregem between August 18 and September 5. Neither Kunstwerkt nor CC De Schakel are responsible for the costs and risks involved in sending your work by post.
Do you prefer to bring in your work yourself? Then you can do so between August 18 and September 5 at the reception desk of CC De Schakel, every weekday between 9h00 and 12h30.
Is it not possible for you to bring in your work at one of these times or send it by mail? Then unfortunately you cannot be part of this expo.
Extra: Eat this surprise swap
For whoever is interested, we are adding an extra offer to this project: the 'Eat this' surprise exchange. Here you can indicate in the application form, without obligation, whether you want to exchange your work with someone else's at the end of the project. There is no possibility to choose the works in advance, and your work will be exchanged with another person who also indicated the same in the registration form. When it is sent back or collected in CC De Schakel, you will not receive your work, but someone else's. Top of the line surprise!
