Chicago in Technicolor

Chicago in Technicolor

This work was the culmination of the John David Mooney Foundation residency. During the residency several drawings were produced whilst wandering through the city. The drawings mapped the city in an abstract and diagrammatic form. They attempted to go beyond the 2D character of road maps and try to represent an element of urban flow. Near the end of the residency I used these drawings, photos and collected city maps to create a large diagrammatic map of Chicago in the gallery. The areas I explored appeared on the wall as they were in reality. The unexplored areas became a dream map of what lay beyond. Through this map I explored my own relationship to the unknown and the influence of spatial experience on the imagination of unknown territories.
