Piecowanie Fafluchta

Piecowanie Fafluchta

In this work, I decided to combine three themes that have recently interested me.

First of all, I’ve wanted to try creating a piece using fluorescent pigments. I had done some experiments before, but this time I made it the foundation of the work. Mixing the paints was quite a struggle—such intense pigments are hard to balance. I think it turned out well, but I’ll definitely revisit this topic as it’s an interesting challenge.

Secondly, I’ve been making smaller pieces lately, so I wanted to create something larger using movable matrices. This work measures 115 × 33 cm, but for printing, 3 smaller blocks are used, positioned relative to a table with registration marks for the paper.

Thirdly, the inspiration was Kakemono (掛け物). I recently used a similar format for a calendar and loved its practicality — it doesn’t need framing and is easy to store or transport.

And… I know I mentioned three reasons, but there’s probably an overarching mainly…  I wanted to combine modernity with tradition, hence the scroll format, contemporary pigments, and modern design. I find this project fun and enjoyable, though I see room for improvement. (I might try printing it again with a different color palette later.)

I titled the work “Piecowanie Fafluchta.” I tried translating it into English, but some meaning got lost. Well, not everything translates perfectly. A friend called it “weirdly cool,” and for me, that’s great
