Night Is an Escape Ground
Night Is an Escape Ground
This series began in 2016, after I graduated from university and entered the job market. Later, I moved to Tehran in search of a better life and new opportunities, though, if we don’t count leaving the city where I was born, that was in fact my first migration when I was 6.
That move marked the beginning of my nightly wanderings, listening to the sounds of homes and neighborhoods. Since I didn’t know Tehran well, I started by exploring the streets around my apartment, easing my fear of the dark and solitude through music. Gradually, I began associating each street and alley with the song I was listening to at that moment, mapping the city through sound and memory.
Night became a refuge, a space to escape from life and the exhaustion of the day. Over the years, this habit of walking at night followed me across borders: through Tehran, Isfahan, Rasht, Belgrade, Georgia, Istanbul, Ghent and Paris.
Night Is an Escape Ground is a visual and emotional archive of these nocturnal journeys, a collection of cities, streets, and fleeting moments illuminated by artificial light and personal memory. Each photograph carries traces of movement, music, and migration, echoes of a life constantly in transit.
(These photos are only a part of the series.)
