UNEARTHED

UNEARTHED

Installation/1-day event, Birnie, Scotland, September 2008

The location of this temporary art work was the site of an archaeological dig in Birnie. The installation was positioned directly above the buried remains of an old Iron-age round house. My observations of the on-going archaeological dig and research of the site's history led to the development of an installation, which aimed to link together the finds with their discovery and their interpretation. I used the tape lines to map the movements of the digging archaeologist, which then flowed into the layout of the round house and how it had been used by Iron Age people; the latter being discovered and interpreted by the first. This installation took place during an open day in the hope to offer an insight into the working process of an archaeologist.
