Masking

Masking

Research in Make-up art as an autonomous art form.

"Be open to the invisible, and let the screen merely serve as a window."
This thought unfolded throughout my professional journey as a photographer and makeup artist in the television, entertainment, and artistic realms.

In today's world, people can be highly selective in what they see, share, and present on social media, often creating an incomplete image of who someone truly is. Digital media and social networks accentuate these distortions, reinforcing the tendency to label individuals based on their profession, appearance, or duties, as if these aspects define their primary identity. It's as if one can only fulfill a single role and stand for one thing.

In the diverse society we live in now, where people are free to be who they want to be, isn't it possible to challenge this notion? What if we dare to question this idea?

Because a first impression never tells the whole story, I encourage an open mind and the ability to see beyond superficial impressions. It acknowledges that true connection and understanding require more time and depth than just a quick observation.

With this portrait, I aim to address the fact that makeup is often still not taken seriously as an art form. It's time to push boundaries and recognize that makeup is as expressive a medium as painting or sculpting. Just as Ensor used his masks to challenge social norms, I seek to challenge traditional views on art.
