IRREPRESSIBLE MOVEMENT
IRREPRESSIBLE MOVEMENT
Collaboration with James Johnson-Perkins in Cecil Sharp House, London, UK
James Johnson-Perkins and I were invited by the artist in residency at Cecil Sharp House to create an installation. Cecil Sharp house is the base for the English Folk Dance and Song Society. The installation responded to this context. Incorporated into the installation were big squares with 3 rectangles; these symbolised a movement in English Morris dancing. They also create a rhythm throughout the building which resonates with the music accompanying the same dance. In the staircase James built a big tower of Mega blocks. This tower symbolises a May pole. The lines of the installation follow the staircase round the May pole like a dance whilst incorporating the architectural form.
